The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel as a Weather Services Provider

Hello! The Weather Channel owns and publishes the weather.com website, The Weather Channel mobile app and other weather-related applications. But sometimes, The Weather Channel provides our weather information to other companies who present that weather information to you in their own websites, mobile apps and other applications. This page explains how The Weather Channel uses your data in those specific situations. For all other questions about personal data collection, use and/or sharing by the other company’s website, mobile app or other application, please review that company’s privacy policy.

The Weather Channel’s data distribution systems can automatically provide weather information for a desired location if we are given the desired location in a few recognisable formats such as postcodes, city names or geocodes (lat/long). The location data might be automatically provided to us by the application you use or you might type and choose a location through a search, depending upon how the other company has designed its website or application. Either way, The Weather Channel will use the location data solely for the purpose of delivering weather information for that location to you. (Please note that this doesn’t mean the other company’s website or application does not use your location data for other purposes, so consult the other company’s privacy policy for more information.) Where required, the operating system (OS), browser or mobile app you’re using may ask for permission to use your location data or show you a notice that your location data is being used. Whether this happens will depend on the OS, browser or app you’re using and whether you previously granted permission or saw the notice before. Please note that because The Weather Channel does not own, manage or maintain the OS, browser or app you’re using, we cannot control whether and when you receive a notice or a request for permission to use your location.

Just as people cannot send letters to each other without postal addresses, devices on the Internet cannot communicate without IP addresses. Because of this, the other company’s website or application uses an IP address so that we can provide weather information to your device. The other company may communicate with The Weather Channel using an IP address assigned to your device at the time or an IP address for their internal systems. Either way, The Weather Channel will use the IP address solely for the purpose of delivering weather information to you.

You may be wondering,“When does The Weather Channel’s Privacy Policy apply to me?” The Weather Channel’s Privacy Policy applies only when a user visits a site, mobile app or other application published and owned by The Weather Channel.
